Bennerley Viaduct, 26th April 2022
Bennerley Viaduct spans the Erewash Valley from Awsworth in Nottinghamshire (to the right in this picture) and Ilkeston in Derbyshire, the River Erewash marking the boundary (although this has had its course altered!). The viaduct carried the Great Northern Railway's Derbyshire Extension line and was opened in 1877 and closed along with teh line in 1968. It is an unusual wrought iron lattice girder bridge 1,452 feet long and the rails were 61 feet above the river level. It was reopened to pedestrians in early 2022 and is a Grade II* listed structure. The modern wind turbine is to the north of the site of the old Bennerley Iron Works, north of the bridge and towers over it. 14:10¼, Tuesday 26th April 2022. Digital Image No. IGMP59398.
