Ruston Shunter "Scaz"
The Ruston & Hornsby Shunter "Scaz" was moved recently from Wembley LMD, where it was no longer needed, to Aylesbury DMUD. Subsequently, it was moved by road from Aylesbury to Tyseley Loco Works, though this is probably not its final destination. I was privileged to be invited by Paul Monument, Chiltern Railways Engineering Standards Manager, to photograph the proceedings for the move at Aylesbury Depot on Wednesday 30th March 2016 - many thanks to Paul. A few photos to start, more to add as time permits. Some details of the loco: Ruston & Hornsby Class LSSH No. 459518 ex-Works on 20th June 1961 to Bramley CAD, followed by Marchwood and then Shoeburyness. On 21st August 1990 to RNAD Dean Hill and then to Middle Peak Railways at Ruddington. It was modified at Electric Traction Ltd, Long Marston and repainted into Chiltern livery. Its Army numbers were originally WD8217 and later WD423 - quite a chequered history! It latterly was in stock as Class 01/5 01585 and is now operational once more at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Quainton Road.Read More
