October 2011
This train was a private charter and was kept well under wraps! Running as 1Z30, "The Inter-City", 5043 "Earl of Mount Edgcumbe" heads the 09:57 from Birmingham Moor Street non-stop to Marylebone, here passing through Princes Risborough on the new centre road, the first steam-hauled train to use the new line. The train ran as part of the festivities to mark the forthcoming retirement of Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways and the idea was to make the run in under two hours, as the old expresses used to do. The scheduled time was 1 hour and 59 minutes, the actual time taken was three minutes less. At this stage the train was a couple of minutes down at 11:20 on Saturday 29th October 2011. A magnificent sight and sound! The train included the water carrier disguised as a GUV and 47773 brought up the rear. Digital Image No. GMPI10440.
