5029 "Nunney Castle", Dawlish Station, 1Z48, 9th May 2014
Although the railway along the Dawlish sea wall has been rebuilt and reopened, the footpath alongside the line is still mainly closed as work continues to restore it, the only section open is between Coryton Cove and the Coast Guard's footbridge at the Exeter end of Dawlish station. Seen from this vantage point, GWR "Castle" Class 4-6-0 No. 5029 "Nunney Castle" is heading 1Z48, "The Anniversary Limited", 16:34 from Plymouth to Bristol Temple Meads, having worked the outward trip from Westbury earlier in the day. The train was running about four minutes late at this point, passing through at 17:36¾ on Friday 9th May 2014. The anniversary being celebrated was the fiftieth of the Ian Allan Special Z48 high speed runs with "Castles" on 9th May 1964, itself an anniversary of the alleged 100mph run of "City of Truro" in 1904.
