London Transport Steam
June 2011 marked 40 years since the end of steam traction on London Transport, the last steam-hauled train running on Sunday 6th June 1971. This also marked the end of regular steam running on "main lines" in the UK, almost three years after the end of steam on BR, though some steam had also continued for a while in Northern Ireland. All colour photos on Agfa CT18 film. A very small sample to start with, many more to add...

Ex-Great Northern Railway 0-6-2T, LNER Class N2/2, BR No. 69523 is blasting away from the station stop at Rickmansworth during a "Steam on the Met" season of Amersham to Watford shuttles, this being the 11:14 from Watford. The loco is one of the class fitted with condensing gear to work over the "Widened Lines" of the Metropolitan Railway, so no stranger to LT metals. It is hauling a set of former SR 4TC stock painted into Metropolitan livery and Bo-Bo diesel No. 20227 brings up the rear to provide air-braking for the train. Various sets of A60 Met Line stock are stabled in the sidings alongside, these trains now also being part of history after a very long life. 11:45, Saturday 21st May 1994, a very wet day! Slide No. 23856.
