London Transport Steam
June 2011 marked 40 years since the end of steam traction on London Transport, the last steam-hauled train running on Sunday 6th June 1971. This also marked the end of regular steam running on "main lines" in the UK, almost three years after the end of steam on BR, though some steam had also continued for a while in Northern Ireland. Photos of some of the daylight operations from the mid - 1960s until the last day. Most are taken with my Voigtländer Vito CLR Camera, later ones with my first SLR, a Pentax S1a. Ex-GWR 57xx 0-6-0PT No. L94 (ex-7752) works "The Last Steam Train on the Underground", a demonstration works train here seen at Farringdon being stopped by signals on the "Widened Lines" from Moorgate, before getting the road again on its trip to Neasden Depot. This loco made it into preservation as 7752 at the Birmingham Railway Museum, Tyseley. Sunday 6th June 1971. Slide No. 7065.
