The heavens had opened a short while before and it absolutely poured, but fortunately, the sun came out again a couple of minutes prior to 5043 "Earl of Mount Edgcumbe" coming into view, and what a sight! The engine is going all out as it gets to grips after the water stop at Newbury Racecourse, here seen approaching a foot-crossing just west of Kintbury. The train is 1Z50, "The Collett Express", though it is carrying "The Bristolian" headboard. It departed from Solihull at 07:05 and is bound for Bristol at 12:00 on Saturday 18th June 2011. The strange effect in front of the train is steam coming off the track as the sun dries up the rain! Digital Image No. GMPI9452.
