This was my first sight of one of the incredible B50 class 2-4-0s and it is being prepared to work the 14:15 train from Madiun to Ponorogo and Slahung, a branch line leading south from the main line at Madiun. This engine was an oil-burner, some others based here were wood-fired. The loco is having its boiler tubes cleared, smoke and flames appearing in all directions and as the engine is coupled to an auxiliary fuel tender and various oil wagons, with another oil tank wagon alongside, this was something of a worry! The engine was one of about seventeen built by Sharp Stewart from 1880 to 1885, B50 11 in 1883, works No. 3107. Tuesday 24th July 1973. Slide No. 11738.
