DB 044s, Bullay Viaduct, 5th April 1971
View looking down onto the viaduct over the Mosel between Bullay (to the left of the picture) and Alf, from above the village of Alf. The viaduct is a double-deck bridge with the railway on the upper level and the road below. The double-headed Class 44s and their freight train are about to dive into Prinzenkopf Tunnel as soon as they leave the bridge en route to Trier. The river made a large loop here, the railway tunnel cut off this loop and the other end of the tunnel is immediately above the river once again. The formation of the former Moselbahn can be seen on the embankment just above the train, this line followed the course of the river from Bullay to Trier. Monday 5th April 1971. Slide No. 6537.
