DR No. 65 1039-0, Nordhausen, 17th September 1971
The DR version of the post-war 2-8-4T was classified 65.10 and differed considerably from the DB version. 88 locos were built between 1954 and 1957, all were fitted with Giesl ejector chimneys from 1967. The driving wheels were larger than the DB version, 1600mm against 1500mm as were the leading and trailing wheels, 1000mm against 850mm. The rear bogie had a rather strange outside frame and the engines had a large bunker but very small tanks. Here 65 1039-0 simmers at the loco depot at Nordhausen on Friday 17th September 1971. Slide No. 7815.
