Former Southern Railway Lines
From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. LSWR Adams "Radial Tank" 4-4-2T class 0415 No. 30582 sits dumped at Eastleigh depot after withdrawal from service. Three locos of the class survived to work the Lyme Regis branch but finally succumbed to progress. This loco and 30584 were scrapped, but 30583 was preserved on the Bluebell Railway. Behind is "Lord Nelson" class 4-6-0 No. 30855 "Robert Blake", also awaiting its fate, and various locos can be seen in the yard beyond. 30582 was built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in 1885, works number 2608, and was withdrawn from Exmouth Junction shed in July 1961. It was scrapped at Eastleigh Works in March 1962. Date uncertain, but most probably a winter afternoon in 1961, and photographer unknown. Collect Slide No. 29417.
