Former Southern Railway Lines
From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. LSWR Adams "Radial Tank" 4-4-2T class 0415 No. 30584 sits dumped at Eastleigh depot after withdrawal from service. Three locos of the class survived to work the Lyme Regis branch but finally succumbed to progress. This loco and 30582 were scrapped, but 30583 was preserved on the Bluebell Railway. Alongside is "Lord Nelson" class 4-6-0 No. 30855 "Robert Blake", also awaiting its fate. 30584 was built by Dübs in 1885, works number 2109, and was withdrawn from Exmouth Junction shed in February 1961. It was scrapped at Eastleigh Works in December 1961. 30855 was built at Eastleigh Works in 1928 and was withdrawn from Eastleigh shed in September 1961, also being scrapped at Eastleigh in February 1962. Date uncertain, but most probably a winter afternoon in 1961, and photographer unknown. Collect Slide No. 29416.
