65788, Southwick, 3rd August 1965
J27 Class 0-6-0 No. 65788 has stopped with its train on the line through Wearmouth, near Hylton Colliery, and is about to uncouple from the wagons and reverse down the steep grade into the Southwick shipyard, Austin & Pickersgill's, on the north bank of the River Wear, to pick up empty steel plate wagons after an earlier delivery. The loco is carrying a 52G Sunderland shedcode plate on its rather burnt smokebox door, a sign of very hard work! Tuesday 3rd August 1965. Slide No. 1538.
