D8236, Liverpool Street, 6th October 1962
Former LNER Lines. A rare sight on a passenger train is BTH Type 1 (Class 15) Bo-Bo No. D8236 at the head of the RCTS "East London No. 3 Railtour" prior to departure at 13:36 from Liverpool Street, the first leg of the tour being to North Woolwich. Saturday 6th October 1962. D8236 was built by Clayton as part of the second batch of 34 locos, the first ten being built by the Yorkshire Engine Company, all with BTH (British Thompson Houston) electical equipment and Paxman engines, and entered service on 7th October 1960, initially allocated to Ipswich shed. At this time it was based at Stratford (30A) though for some of its very short life it was based at Finsbury Park. It was withdrawn on 6th October 1968 and eventually scrapped at G. Cohen's, Kettering, some time between April and June 1969. B&W Neg No.209.
