68964, Doncaster Works, 30th September 1962
Gresley J50/3 0-6-0T No. 68964 has reached Doncaster Works en route from its final shed at Low Moor (25F) for scrapping, though it carries a shedcode plate 56F, a newer code for Low Moor. It was built at Doncaster and entered service on 31st December 1926, a development of Gresley's 1922 design for the Great Northern Railway. Seventy two locos were built across the sub-classes and a further thirty older engines rebuilt as J50s, they were spread around the LNER/BR system, including a few in Scotland. 68964 was withdrawn in October 1962, just after this photo was taken and scrapped during the latter part of the same month. B&WNeg No.206.
