D1015 "Western Champion", Princes Risborough, 1Z23, 13th December 2014
"Western" Class 52 No. D1015 "Western Champion" wizzes through Princes Risborough on the Up Main Line with the "Canterbury Champion", 1Z23, 06:30 from Tame Bridge Parkway to Canterbury West. The tour was dogged by problems, the ECS did not turn up from Crewe until 1 hour after it should have done and departure was 30 minutes late. Time was made up to Leamington Spa, arrival being only 12 minutes late, but dragging brakes on one of the coaches meant it had to be removed at Leamington. After prolonged shunting manoeuvres and much disruption to Chiltern and Cross Country services, the train departed Leamington Spa 181 minutes late! Diverted from its original route via Oxford and Reading due to engineering work, it still worked via the Chiltern line, stopping at Haddenham & Thame Parkway to pick up passengers from Didcot and Oxford who had been bussed there. Still around 176 minutes late at this point, the superb winter sun was now absolutely head-on, though at least this hides the motley collection of different liveried Mk.II coaches... 12:01, Saturday 13th December 2014.
