4468 "Mallard", Clapham Museum, 8th April 1964
The World speed record holder for steam traction is LNER A4 4-6-2 No. 4468 "Mallard" which achieved 126 mph during a test run on 3rd July 1938. As such, it took its place in the National Collection and is seen here on display soon after arrival at the old Clapham Transport Museum in the converted former tram shed. Wednesday 8th April 1964.
