K1 No. 2005, Whitby, July 1975
Having run-round its train outside the station, K1 2-6-0 No. 2005 then propelled it back into Whitby station and posed alongside the signalbox. When the railway was “rationalized” here, the signalbox was demolished and parts were used to build the new signalbox at Grosmont on the NYMR. The goods shed alongside the signalbox was also demolished and a supermarket was built on the site, leaving only one platform operational. St Mary's Church and the ruins of the Abbey can be seen perched on the East Cliff. July 1975. Slide No. 13288.
