Bowater's, "Conqueror", Ridham, 27th September 1969
Bagnall 2' 6" gauge 0-6-2T "Conqueror", No. 2192 of 1922, sets out with a trainload of paper from the Ridham Dock area to Kemsley and Sittingbourne on the Bowater's railway, just a week before the line was closed - it was the last steam-worked narrow gauge industrial line in Britain. After closure, the line was taken over by the Locomotive Club of Great Britain and part of it was reopened as the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, though much of the stock went to the Great Whipsnade Railway, including "Conqueror". Since then the line has had a chequered history, but remains in use to the present time, albeit with reduced length running lines. Saturday 27th September 1969. Slide No. 4170.
