British Industrial Systems
As steam traction was run down on BR lines, so interest in industrial systems rose. There were many places around the country with a wealth of ancient and modern machines still hard at work in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Seaham Harbour Dock Co. Ltd No. 18, 0-4-0ST built by Lewin of Poole in 1863, Works No. 693, as an 0-4-0WT for the Londonderry Railway and later rebuilt. Here, it has been working at the lower level below the staithes at Seaham Harbour, and after standing for a while to build up boiler pressure it mounts an all out assault on Dogger Bank, the 1 in 11 gradient back to the upper level!
