My very first photograph, taken on my father's Box Brownie! Ex-LB&SCR H2 Class 4-4-2 (Brighton Atlantic) No. 32424 "Beachy Head" at Newhaven with the RCTS "Sussex Coast" Railtour on Sunday 13th April 1958. This was the engine's final trip before withdrawal and scrapping. B&W Neg No. 1.
Following on from my first photograph, taken on my father's Box Brownie! Ex-LB&SCR H2 Class 4-4-2 (Brighton Atlantic) No. 32424 "Beachy Head" at Newhaven with the RCTS "Sussex Coast" Railtour on Sunday 13th April 1958. This was the engine's final trip before withdrawal and scrapping. B&W Neg No. 1a.
From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. SE&CR Wainwright D1 class 4-4-0 No. 31487 was built in July 1902 by Ashford/Beyer Peacock, it was withdrawn from Bricklayers Arms MPD in February 1961 and scrapped at Ashford Works in April 1961. The loco is carrying a 73B shedcode plate, which was Bricklayers Arms, the depot closing in June 1962. The loco is standing in the scrap line at Ashford Works, during an RCTS visit on Sunday 19th March 1961. Photographer unknown, but possibly E.A.S. Cotton. Collect Slide No. 29408.
From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. Maunsell L1 class 4-4-0 No. 31782 was built in April 1926, North British No. 23363, it was withdrawn in February 1961 from 70A Nine Elms MPD and scrapped at Ashford Works in May 1961. It is carrying a 74A shedcode plate - Ashford MPD - but this changed to 73F in October 1958... The loco is facing "Schools" class 4-4-0 No. 30933 "King's Canterbury" and is ahead of D1 class 4-4-0 No. 31487. They are standing on the scrap line at Ashford Works during an RCTS visit on Sunday 19th March 1961. Photographer unknown, but possibly E.A.S. Cotton. Collect Slide No. 29409.
From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. LSWR Adams "Radial Tank" 4-4-2T class 0415 No. 30584 sits dumped at Eastleigh depot after withdrawal from service. Three locos of the class survived to work the Lyme Regis branch but finally succumbed to progress. This loco and 30582 were scrapped, but 30583 was preserved on the Bluebell Railway. Alongside is "Lord Nelson" class 4-6-0 No. 30855 "Robert Blake", also awaiting its fate. 30584 was built by Dübs in 1885, works number 2109, and was withdrawn from Exmouth Junction shed in February 1961. It was scrapped at Eastleigh Works in December 1961. 30855 was built at Eastleigh Works in 1928 and was withdrawn from Eastleigh shed in September 1961, also being scrapped at Eastleigh in February 1962. Date uncertain, but most probably a winter afternoon in 1961, and photographer unknown. Collect Slide No. 29416.

From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. One of the three surviving Beattie Well Tanks, class 0298 2-4-0WT 0P, No. 30586 is busy doing some shunting in the yard at Wadebridge station on an unknown date in the late 1950s or early 1960s. This loco differed from the two others in that it had square splashers as opposed to rounded. The other two locos survived into preservation, but sadly, not this one. Photographer unknown. Collect Slide No. 1917.
GWR "Dukedog" 4-4-0 No. 9017 glints in the sunshine as it sits in the yard at Sheffield Park station on the fledgling Bluebell Railway on Sunday 1st April 1962. Behind it is North London 0-6-0T, LNWR No. 2650 and they are being photographed by tour participants of the "Blue Belle" railtour from London Bridge, hauled by GNR 0-6-0ST No.1247. The stock of the tour train can be seen on the right of the picture. B&W Neg No. 83.
Former North London Railway 0-6-0T is carrying its later LNWR guise as No. 2650, it was later taken over by the LMS and ended its BR days as 58850 on the Cromford & High Peak line. It survived into preservation and is seen here in the yard at Sheffield Park in the early days of the Bluebell Railway. Behind is GWR "Dukedog" 4-4-0 No. 9017 and on the right is SECR "P" class 0-6-0T No. 27 "Primrose". Sunday 1st April 1962. B&W Neg No. 84.
